MOTORISED AWNING TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE

PROBLEM 1: LOSS OR SHIFT OF LIMIT SETTINGS ON MOTORISED AWNING

The motorised awning will not stop at either the upper or lower limit when the blind is activated. Or the limit setting has shifted and is no longer stopping at the original position when the motorised roller blinds were originally installaed.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

- A power interruption has caused the limit settings to be lost.

-Possible Repair Solution: Reseting of  Tubular Motors Limits.

-The Motorised Awning or the Tubular Motor has been removed then re-installed incorrectly.

-Possible Repair Solution: Re-Adjustment of limit settings

-The Remote Control or Mechanical Limits have been tampered with.

Possible Repair Solution: Resetting of Tubular Motor Limits.

-Awning Motor is faulty or about to fail

-Possible Repair Solution: Replace with new tubular awning motor.

PROBLEM 2: MOTORISED AWNING IS TRACKING CROOKED.

The motorised awnings fabric is travelling too far to the left or to the right when it is travelling back up to the upper limit.  Sometimes the fabric is tracking so far off the tube that it is rubbling against the awning brackets or head box damaging the edge of the fabric.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

- Damaged, frayed, stretched or out of square awning fabric

-Possible Repair Solution: Packing of motorised awning tube with tape or awning fabric to adjust the tracking direction or possibly complete fabric replacement may be required.

-Insects such as Spiders, Flies, Moths, Bird Nests Etc......may have become squashed in between the layers of fabric as the motorised awning has rolled up.

-Possible Repair Solution: Clean insects or any foreign material from the awning fabric, the awning tube may require some packing if the fabric has become distorted.

-Electrical cable that powers the motor may be rubbing against the motorised awning.

Possible Repair Solution: Tidy up the cables and keep them clear of the motorised awnings fabric and roller tube.

-The motorised awning is rubbing against an object causing it to track off centre.

-Possible Repair Solution: Identify any possible objects that may be touching or rubbing up against the blind and remove them.

-The motorised awnings tracking is being affected by wind turbulence as it is rolling up.

-Possible Repair Solutions: Wait for the wind to abate before attempting to close the awning. However if there are very strong winds it is best to try to close the awning to avoid wind damage, guide the awning fabric onto the roll by holding the bottom bar and gently pushing it into the direction you want the fabric to travel.

-The motorised awning was installed incorrectly or our of level.

-Possible Repair Solution: Contact an experienced installer to remove and re-install the awning correctly and level.

PROBLEM 3: BUZZING OR GRUMBLING SOUNDS COMING FROM MOTOR.

Even though electric motorised awning motors do make noise when in motion, the sound should not be overly excessive.  Buzzing or very noisy motors should be looked at by a qualified technician.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

- Motorised awning motor is faulty or about to fail.

-Possible Repair Solution: Replace the motor with a new tubular motor. This may also require a qualified electrician to rewire new inline connections for the new motor if they are different to the old awning motor.

PROBLEM 4: MOTORISED AWNING IS MAKING A CLUNKING OR KNOCKING SOUND

The motorised awning is making a knocking or clunking sound when being opened and closed

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

-The motorised awning hardware components may be loose or damaged

-Possible Repair Solution: Try to listen from which part of the awning the noise is coming from. See if you can identify any loose or damaged parts and re-tighten or replace if damaged.

-The motorised awning motor may be about to fail.

-Possible Repair Solution: Replace  with a new tubular awning motor.

-Motorised awnings may be rubbing or knocking against an object.

Possible Repair Solution: Identify any objects that may be in contact with the motorised awning and remove.

PROBLEM 4: MOTORISED ROLLER BLIND IS NOT MOVING WHEN ACTIVATED

The motorised roller blind is not moving when you press the remote control or wall switch to open and close it.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

-The motorised awnings remote control or wireless wall switch may have a flat battery.

-Possible Repair Solution: Replace the battery in the motorised awnings remote control or wireless wall switch.

-The motorised awnings motor has blown.

-Possible Repair Solution: Replace  with a new tubular awning motor.

-There may be no power to the awning motor if it is hardwired. For battery powered motors check to see if batteries are flat or for solar powered awnings check that solar panels are getting adequate sunlight.

Possible Repair Solution: Check the fuse box to see if the safety switch has been tripped or switched off. Call a qualified electrician to check the wiring to the motor ...if the awning motor is repeatedly tripping the fuse. For battery operated motors, replace or recharge batteries if they are flat.
